Investec team captain Wendy Theron has once again registered more than 700 of her colleagues to participate in the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge at Johannesburg’s Wanderers Club.

Wendy Theron was asked if she takes any personal satisfaction in captaining the largest team in the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge.

“It rocks my world!” enthused Theron, who registered a whopping 706 Investec colleagues for the April 5 Corporate Challenge at the Wanderers Club. “This is a very popular event for Investec staff. I think if we could enter 2,000 people, we would.”

The turnout from Investec contributed to the largest registered crowd in the 15-year history of the Johannesburg event; A capacity crowd of 14,000 runners and walkers from 323 companies.

Theron has been captaining the Investec team for six years and finds the Corporate Challenge a valuable tool toward her company’s unification efforts.

“I essentially took over the organizing of a small team from someone else, combined the various Investec teams the following year into one to align with our Corporate strategy of One Place and the team grew from there,” Theron said.

The quality of the Corporate Challenge has made Theron’s job easier through the years.

“We have more of a demand from employees than a need to create interest,” Theron stressed. “However, we send out vibey mailers leading up to the event and this year we decided to do a Takkie and T-shirt drive for participants to donate their items to one of our CSI beneficiaries.”

As Theron has experienced, the Corporate Challenge is an all-inclusive event, with runners, joggers and walkers all feeling a sense of accomplishment when lining up on the Venus Street starting line.

Some of the country’s famous personalities will provide some much-needed encouragement to the participants at the start and finish line.  South African television presenter, actress and radio DJ Pabi Moloi and fellow local celebrities Liezel van der Westhuizen and Boity Thulo will be among the familiar faces that will be showing support to the participants.

Sporting heroes Bafana Bafana defender Morgan Gould, Springbok great Joel Stransky, and 1992 Olympic 10,000-meter silver medalist Elana Meyer are all expected provide motivation on the night.

The record crowd will be in a celebratory mood following when they gather in the Wanderers Club cricket ovals for superb entertainment. This year’s headline entertainer is acclaimed music producer Sketchy Bongo featuring Kaien Cruz, Kyle Deutsch and Aewon Wolf.

After the festivities have ended, the event will have a lasting benefit.  J.P. Morgan will donate in in celebration of all entrants to the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
