Three blocks away from the Boston Common to the north there was a World Cup Fanfest with thousands watching the Brazil-Scotland match.
One block away, and adjacent to the Public Garden, was the Four Seasons Hotel where the France team and its support staff—the World Cup favorites—have been stationed for the duration of the tournament.
So, on this beautiful sunny night in June, another global spectacle was truly at home.
The 40th running of the JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge Boston, part of the 50th continuous year of operation for the JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge Series, featured a terrific crowd of 6,477 participants from 309 companies, an 8-percent increase from 2025.
The enduring and endearing nature of the Boston event and the Series is not surprising, as the Corporate Challenge's unique combination of healthy competition and workplace camaraderie never ages. The Boston event has reached the stage where multiple generations within one family have found their way to the starting line in the City of Champions, all while the business landscape evolves.
Event owner and operator JPMorganChase had the most entrants, with 250 employees on the Back Bay starting line. Klaviyo (100), Liberty Mutual (100), DraftKings (99), Ab Initio Software (90), Wellington Management (89), Fidelity Investments (87), Alnylam Pharmaceuticals (80), Santander Bank (79), and Plymouth Rock Assurance (76) also had impressive turnouts. But there were hundreds of other businesses from throughout Massachusetts, the vast majority wearing t-shirts pridefully identifying themselves while getting shoutouts in the starting chute from the event announcer.
“Alnylam has been participating in the Boston JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge for more than 15 years, and every year it’s a fantastic opportunity to connect with colleagues—both familiar faces and new ones,” said Ivan Zlatev, the team captain for Alnylam. “It’s an incredible display of team spirit and a true reflection of our strong culture, set against the high-energy backdrop of thousands of fellow corporate runners.”
On the 3.5-mile race course—a historic out-and-back on tree-lined Commonwealth Avenue—there were noteworthy performances across the board.
Cameron Leonard, representing Axcelis Technologies, won the male division in 16:59, and Mary Eccles of Vertex Pharmaceuticals earned the female crown in 20:13. Leonard successfully defended his 2025 Boston male title while Eccles was running the 11th best female time in the entire 2026 JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge Series, and the fourth fastest in the six U.S. locations held to date.
In the non-binary competition, Kassian Walton of Klaviyo not only defended their 2025 title, but did so in a fantastic time of 18:48. Walton's winning effort in 2025 was accomplished in 18:31, and those two sub-19-minute performances are the fastest times registered for non-binary participants in Corporate Challenge history, with the division dating back to 2022.
All the racers, joggers and walkers were celebrated by JPMorganChase, which donated in their honor to the Ron Burton Training Village (RBTV). Founded in 1985 by Boston Patriots' legend Ron Burton, Sr., RBTV maintains a steadfast vision to empower youth through education, leadership, physical wellness, social advancement, and spiritual growth. This was the second consecutive year JPMorganChase chose Ron Burton Training Village as the event beneficiary.
"You all are really supporting the young lives of thousands of kids who are in challenging situations," RBTV President and Director Ron Burton, Jr. told the participants from the Charles Street starting stage. "These students are in a seven-year program of growth that can really change the trajectory of their lives. As you do this JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge and you're running with your heart, we thank you so much."
"We’re so thrilled to partner with the Ron Burton Training Village again," said Dan Curtin, Market Manager of J.P. Morgan Private Bank New England. "It is an incredible organization that helps kids all over the Commonwealth."
Boston was the ninth location in the 2026 JPMorganChase Corporate Challenge Series, which is celebrating its 50th continuous year of operation, and the culmination of a breakneck period of eight events in 49 days.
