JPMorgan Chase Announces
2008 Corporate Challenge Schedule
World's largest corporate road race series to host over 200,000
at events in 12 cities in six countries on five continents
NEW YORK, January 21, 2008 – A worldwide schedule with events in six countries and a focus on the environment are the key elements of the 2008 JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge® Series.
The 32nd consecutive calendar year of the Series begins on Thursday, March 6 in Johannesburg, South Africa and will ultimately visit 12 cities on five continents before concluding with the fastest companies competing in the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Championship in New York on Saturday, October 4.
The Corporate Challenge is the largest road racing Series in the world and is coming off a year of unprecedented growth. The 2007 Series drew over 225,000 participants from more than 7,500 companies, reached full capacity in seven cities, and had an increase in entries in the other five.
This worldwide collection of fitness enthusiasts and JPMorgan Chase & Co. will now be Teaming Up For A Greener Tomorrow. Each 2008 Corporate Challenge will have a variety of tactics designed to lessen the consumption of energy and paper resources – from the printing of finisher t-shirts, to the sourcing of environmentally-friendly vendors, to providing shuttle transportation options, to a goal of 100-percent online registration and on-site recycling.
“Our intent is to become fully ‘green’ and after every event we’ll let our entrants know how we are doing,” Barbara Paddock of JPMorgan Chase & Co. said. “With nearly a quarter-million total participants, the impact of organizing and implementing our events with environmental awareness can be profound.”
After the March visit to Johannesburg, the 2008 Series will continue on Wednesday, April 23 in Singapore and then moves to the United States for an active May and June.
Six U.S. cities – Chicago (Thursday, May 22), Rochester (Thursday, May 29), Buffalo (Thursday, June 5), New York City (Wednesday and Thursday, June 18-19), Syracuse (Tuesday, June 24), and Boston (June TBD) – will be visited over a six-week period. In that same timeframe, the Corporate Challenge will travel to Frankfurt, Germany on Wednesday, June 18. Frankfurt, with 67,270 participants, was the largest road race in the world in 2007.
There will also be Corporate Challenge events in London, England (Wednesday and Thursday, July 9-10) and San Francisco (Wednesday, September 17). The 2008 Series has already begun, with a November 14, 2007 event in Sydney, Australia.
The Corporate Challenge will also make an impact in the community through charitable giving. The JPMorgan Chase Foundation will make a donation for each entry to not-for-profit organizations in each city. Since 2005, these funds have totaled nearly $1.8 million, earning the Corporate Challenge “Charitable Event of the Year” honors from USA Track & Field.
As it has been every year since its debut in 1977, the Corporate Challenge is a 3.5-mile, team road race. All participants must work a minimum of 25 hours per week and enter as part of a company team with their colleagues.
“It’s that element of team work and camaraderie that keeps the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge going strong,” Grete Waitz, the most decorated women’s distance runner in history, said. “Every boss wants his or her employees to be healthy, cohesive and goal-oriented. The Corporate Challenge helps with all of those elements, while giving back to the community.”
Online registration in each Corporate Challenge city typically opens three-to-four months prior to event night. Please check back to www.jpmorganchasecc.com regularly for information on your particular city.
