Fortune
500 Fastest Team Award debuts
Complete list of Fortune 500 results
Who’s
the fastest FORTUNE 500 Team of them all?
This year
marks 50 years of the FORTUNE 500 and “FORTUNE
Magazine” commemorated the milestone with a special contest
honoring the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge® companies
who appear on either the FORTUNE 500 or Global 500.
At each JPMorgan
Chase Corporate Challenge event throughout 2004, companies from
FORTUNE 500/Global 500 teams attempted to qualify for the JPMorgan Chase Corporate
Challenge Championship in New York in October. Qualifying teams automatically
were entered for consideration in the FORTUNE 500 Fastest Team
Award (see teams that qualified below). The fastest FORTUNE 500 male, female and mixed teams in
the Championship event were honored in the post-race awards
ceremony at JPMorgan Chase’s corporate headquarters.
The FORTUNE 500
listing first appeared in July 1955 as a supplement to the regular
issue. It came into being almost as an afterthought when an assistant
managing editor asked his secretary to put together a list of the
500 biggest industrial companies as a reference tool for editors
listing yearly sales, profits and assets.
The FORTUNE
500 ranks the largest companies in America. It encompasses all
sectors of the U.S. business world and reflects the shift in
the U.S. from an industrial-based economy to a more integrated,
hi-tech economy of products and services.
Conversely,
the FORTUNE Global 500, which was introduced in 1990, ranks the
largest companies worldwide. A complete archive of the FORTUNE
500 will also be available for the first time at www.fortune500.com.
