Schedule is announced for Series'
most international year ever in 2004

NEW YORK (Dec. 17, 2003) - The JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge® Series has never been more global.

JPMorgan Chase, owner and operator of the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series, announced today the 2004 Series schedule, which includes first-time events in Johannesburg, South Africa (March 4) and Singapore (April 28).

With these two new additions, the 2004 JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series will feature 18 events in 15 cities in six countries on five continents.  No other road racing series in the world is so global or successful.

"The JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge is unique in the entire world," said Fred Hill, Executive Vice President for Marketing and Communications at JPMorgan Chase. "The fact is that in different markets around the world our colleagues and business partners come to us and say we want the Corporate Challenge. That speaks volumes of how powerful it is as a product."

Series is in its 28th year

The year 2004 marks the 28th consecutive year of operation for the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series.  The 2004 Series has already begun, with the fourth annual Sydney JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge on November 12 (see complete results here). The next event slated is Johannesburg on Thursday, March 4.

Singapore joins the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge family with its debut event on Wednesday, April 28.  The JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge in Frankfurt -- the largest foot race of any kind in Europe with more than 40,000 participants -- will be held on Wednesday, June 16.  The 18th annual London JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge will be held hard by the River Thames over two nights, Wednesday and Thursday, July 7-8.

The U.S. portion of the 2004 Series begins on Wednesday, April 7 in Dallas. Other U.S. events include: Rochester (Thursday, May 27), Chicago (Thursday, June 3), New York (Wednesday, June 9 and Wednesday, June 23), Buffalo (Thursday, June 10), Morristown, New Jersey (Thursday, July 22), Jones Beach Long Island, New York (Tuesday, July 27), Syracuse (Tuesday, August 3) and San Francisco (Tuesday, September 14).

The date of the Boston JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge is still to be determined.

A few changes of note for Company Captains

Significant changes of note for Company Captains with the 2004 schedule:

  • Chicago's event has moved from the first Thursday in August to the first Thursday in June.
  • There will only be two JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge events in Central Park this year rather than three.

All sites and starting times for the events will be finalized in the coming weeks.  Please check back often to www.jpmorganchasecc.com for details.

As always, the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series will culminate with the season-ending Championship event on New York's Park Avenue.  The 2004 Championship is slated for Saturday morning, October 2.  With the addition of teams from South Africa and Singapore, this Championship events promises to be the most competitive yet.

The Series has come a long way since it took its first tentative steps in Central Park in 1977 when 200 runners from 50 companies gathered for the inaugural race in what then was called the Manufacturers Hanover Corporate Challenge®. More than 220,000 participants are expected this year.

Series stresses importance of physical fitness

The Series sends a message that it is not just fiscal fitness that is important in the corporate world. Physical fitness also is important. Participating companies use the races as a platform to promote fitness and well-being in the work place. Runners find it easy to train for the 3.5-mile distance and have the extra benefit of competing with their colleagues in a relaxed and social atmosphere.

And, each year, hundreds of thousands of dollars are given to local charities in host cities for worthwhile causes. For a list of 2003 beneficiaries, click here.

We invite you to browse through our web site to learn more about the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge. Better yet, we invite you to take part this year. Form a team. It takes as few as four people, or your entire company can enter. Train with the help of our celebrity spokesperson Grete Waitz. Then enjoy the event and the company of your co-workers on race night. It's a great reason to run out of the office, no matter where in the world your office happens to be.

Entering a team:
The basic rules

The JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge is not an individual event. It is a team competition for employees of corporations, businesses, financial institutions, and other entities. Individuals cannot enter without being a member of a corporate team. Unless otherwise noted for a specific event, there is no limit with the number of participants that can be listed on a company entry form. This event is uniquely self-timed and the Company Captains collect finish times from their company participants on race evening to form four-member teams composed of 4 men for a male team - OR - 4 women for a female team - OR - or 2 men/2 women for a mixed team. There is no limit to the number of teams a company may form as long as no participant's name and time appear on more than one scorecard.

Please check your event's registration page for a more detailed look at entry eligibility rules, including team formation. Or, if your event's registration page does not yet have detailed information on it, check the registration page of an event coming up shortly.
